about
Cathy McManamon wrote Bare Bones as a tribute to the elements of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. It is a reminder that no hardship or challenge can rob us of those essences that comprise our Spirit - change their nature in us, perhaps, but never take them away from us.
Three-Fifths is a Chicago-area trio made up of Cathy McManamon (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jason Neerenberg (vocals, electric bass), and Daniel "gundo" Gunderson (keyboard, everything else). Playing mostly original music and blending in covers from inspiring artists such as Dave Carter, Loreena McKennitt, and the Indigo Girls, together they weave a folk-rock-pagan soundscape that wanders through inner and outer journeys of the human spirit.
Cathy, Jason, and gundo have been making music for many years, each solo and in a variety of groups. They all play multiple instruments, sing, and have played in coffee houses, at sci-fi conventions, in basements, bars, parks, and living rooms all over the country. Their travels this year will take them to Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Des Moines, St. Louis, and anywhere people seek magic in music. When they are not playing as Three-Fifths, they join two other musicians to make up the Pegasus-nominated rock-filk band Toyboat. Cathy also facilitates the monthly drum circles at Life Force Arts Center and serves as a ritual drummer in the pagan community.
